My name is Noelle Trese and I was born and raised in Ortonville, MI, which is located halfway between Pontiac and Flint. I moved to Kalamazoo in 1975 to attend Nazareth College, fell in love with the area and have enjoyed living in Kalamazoo ever since. I began "potting" in 1999 when I took a class at The Kalamazoo Arts Institute better known as the KIA. I was instantly hooked like most people who stumbled onto the pottery scene!
My pieces are all one-of-a-kind made by my hand, either wheel thrown or hand built and individually glazed by me. I begin with white earthenware clay and apply low fire underglazes to create the colors desired, give it it's first firing, glaze once again with a clear glaze and give it it's final firing. Sometimes I use additional materials such as oils or acrylics to add and enhance textures.
Having painted murals in the past, I enjoy applying my painterly skills to a more functional medium. The wide range of glazing colors and endless possibilities of form keep this work exciting for me. It gives me the greatest joy to create pottery and my hope is that you too, receive enjoyment from my creations.
